Format
That the address is laid out the way the destination expects, for example DIN 5008 in Germany or the USPS format in the United States.
Postcode and place
That the postcode is valid and matches the place name.
Country
That the country is recognised and that the country line is present where it is needed.

Anything else the destination country asks of an address.
